CAT 2016 NOTIFICATION - HIGHLIGHTS

The CAT 2016 notification has been released today. The key points from the notification/press release are as below.

  • CAT 2016 will be conducted in two sessions on one day. The exam will be held on 4th December, 2016 (Sunday).
  • The exam will be conducted in 138 cities.
  • Candidates will be given the option to select 4 Test Cities in order of preference. Test Cities and Centers will be assigned to the candidates only after the last date for CAT 2016 registration and hence candidates need not rush to block slots and sites in the initial days of registration.
  • Candidates must pay the registration fee through online mode only, including Credit Card, Debit Card, and Net Banking.
  • The duration of the examination will be 180 minutes. There will be three sections:
    • Section I: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
    • Section II: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
    • Section III: Quantitative Ability
  • Non-MCQs continue this year too. Distribution across sections has not been specified.
  • Basic on-screen calculator will be available for computation.
  • Candidates will be allotted exactly 60 minutes for answering questions in each section and they cannot switch from one section to another while answering questions in a section.
  • The number of questions per section and the overall number of questions has not been specified. This detail was mentioned in the press release document for CAT 2015 and is missing in the document this year. We will have to wait and see if any clarity emerges on this matter.

FAQS ON IIFT

A) The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) was set up in 1963 by the Government of India as an autonomous organization to help professionalize the country's foreign trade management and increase exports by developing human resources; generating, analyzing and disseminating data; and conducting research.It has two campuses, one in Delhi and the other one in Kolkata.

A) IIFT is one of the premier B-schools in India. As per our (T.I.M.E.) rankings, Both IIFT-Delhi and IIFT-Kolkata are counted among AAA grade B-schools.

A) The test score of this entrance examination is used for admission into MBA IB program offered at IIFT's New Delhi and Kolkata Campus.

A) It is usually conducted in the month of November. This year, the entrance test is on 27 Nov, 2016. No, it is not an online exam.

MBA - IB is considered to be the flagship course of IIFT.

The MBA (IB) is a general management course with special emphasis on International Business. This means, besides doing a general MBA (as is done in other B-Schools), IIFT students are exposed to the international perspectives of various subjects by virtue of their doing courses like international marketing, international finance, international strategy and the like.

Intake - 150 to 160 *(New Delhi Campus), 120-140*(Kolkata Campus)

Duration - 2 years

Fees - 7* Lacs p.a for General/OBC category students and 3.5* Lakhs p.a. For SC/ST/DA category students Eligibility - A graduate from any discipline. Graduation final year students can also apply for admission.

The average salary for the 2014-16 batch of MBA-IB Programme was 18.01 lacs pa, with the highest offer of 29 lacs pa. The highest international salary offered was USD 150000 p.a.

The jobs offered to IIFT graduates vary widely. A variety of profiles are offered including Equity Analysis, International Marketing, Investment Banking, Derivatives Trading, Sales & Marketing and many others in different domains like Strategy, Corporate Finance, Treasury, Supply Chain Management, Risk Management etc.

There is no management quota for admission to MBA-IB at IIFT.

Yes, There is a provision of reservation of seats at IIFT for SC, ST, OBC and Physically Challenged Candidates.

Except for the section on General Awareness, all the other sections of IIFT get well covered with a good preparation for CAT. However, it would be advisable for a student to work on his/her speed mathematics as some of the questions under Data Interpretation tend to be calculation intensive.

While preparing for the GK section in IIFT entrance test, a student should focus on issues related to national & international events, world bodies, and foreign trade-related information.
