RRB NTPC (Group C)

1st Stage: Preliminary Exam (1st Stage CBT)
2nd Stage: Main Exam (2nd Stage CBT)
3rd Stage: Skill Test:
a. Computer-Based Aptitude Test for Station Master and Traffic Assistant;
b. Typing Skill Test for Junior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Time Keeper, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist and Senior Time Keeper
4th Stage: Document Verification
5th Stage: Medical Examination

Candidates who applied for Trains Clerk, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Goods Guard, Senior Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, and Commercial Apprentice will directly go for Document Verification and Medical Examination after the 2nd Stage CBT. Candidates will have to clear each stage of the exam in order to appear for the next step.

1st Stage CBT (Prelims)

2nd Stage CBT (Mains)

There is negative marking of 1/3rd marks for every wrong answer.

The Second Stage CBT will be different for different posts. All posts that come under a particular 7th CPC Level (Level 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6) will have a common 2nd Stage CBT. Also, the difficulty level of the paper will depend upon the level.

Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

Candidates who qualify in the 2nd Stage CBT and who have applied for the post of Station Master (SM) and Traffic Assistant (TA) will have to appear for this test. They should secure a minimum T-Score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries to qualify.
There is no negative marking in this stage.
Note that the selection of SM and TA for Document Verification will be based on the marks secured by the candidates in 2nd Stage CBT and CBAT, with 70% weightage given to 2nd Stage CBT and 30% to CBAT.

Typing Skill Test (TST)

This is the third stage of the selection process for candidates who applied for the posts of Junior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Time Keeper, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist, and Senior Time Keeper. Only candidates who qualify in the 2nd Stage CBT will be called for this stage. However, this stage is just qualifying in nature.

The expected typing speed of the candidates in English and Hindi is 30 words per minute and 40 words per minute, respectively.

Candidates with not less than 40% permanent disability due to Blindness/Low Vision, Cerebral Palsy, and Loco Motor Disability will be exempted from this stage. But they have to provide a Typing Skill Test Exemption Certificate issued by a Competent Medical Board.

Selection of candidates for Document Verification will be based on the marks secured by the candidates in 2nd Stage CBT provided they clear the TST or are exempted from it.

Document Verification

Candidates will be called for this stage based on merit, that is, based on the:
Marks secured by the candidates in 2nd Stage CBT for Trains Clerk, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Goods Guard, Senior Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, and Commercial Apprentice,
Scores of the candidates in 2nd Stage CBT and Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) for the posts of Station Master (SM) and Traffic Assistant (TA),

Marks secured by the candidates in 2nd Stage CBT provided they clear the Typing Skill Test (TST) or are exempted from it, for the posts of Junior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Time Keeper, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist, and Senior Time Keeper.

Candidates whose documents are found in order will have to appear for Medical Fitness Test. If found fit, they will be recruited. Note that in case two or more persons secure the same score, preference will be given to the one older in age.

Document Verification (DV)

Based on the performance of candidates in 2nd Stage CBT and based on the performance of candidates in both 2nd Stage CBT and CBAT/TST (as applicable), candidates equal to the number of vacancies will be called for Document Verification as per their merit and options.

Technical Cadre (Group C):

The posts of Technical Cadre in Group C are filled in by Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) through Indian Railway Technical Cadre Exam (RTCE). The eligibility to apply for RTCE would be Civil/Mechanical Engineering graduates or graduates in Signalling and Telecom/other similar disciplines can also apply. The First Stage of selection process is Written Exam which has questions based on the following subjects

(i) Arithmetical Aptitude
(ii) General Responsiveness
(iii) General English
(iv) Logical and Analytical Reasoning

Following the Written test, based on the specifications of the job, candidates will have Aptitude Test/Skill Test/Vision Test, etc. Aptitude Test/Skill Test/Vision Test, etc. are of qualifying nature and candidates should clear the test to be qualified for the next stage of selection process.

The next stage of selection process will be Interview/Document Verification. Candidates getting shortlisted in Interview/Document Verification will be given appointment only up on declared medically fit in Medical Fitness Test.

Assistant Loco Pilot:

Assistant Loco Pilot post in Indian Railways is a post which requires high efficiency, perceptive skills, and good medical condition of the candidates. The selection/recruitment for this post is done separately and is done in three stages
Written Test
Viva-voce/Skill test, Document Verification
Medical Fitness Test

The written exam for Assistant Loco Pilot will be Objective Type and for time duration of 90 minutes.

Candidate must have high level medical standard which is no other category required so far. Loco running men/railway drivers must have the highest standard of medical fitness in medical. This medical standard has to be maintained from the period of joining and up to the end of the carrier as Railway driver.

Psychological/Skill Test

Psychological Test for the post of Assistant Loco Pilot is conducted as a part of Skill Test. Few of the Psychological test is to

  • Measure Perceptual Speed
  • Measure Depth Perception and Concentration
  • Measure Ability to Follow Directions
  • Measure Memory

Group D

The selection of RRB Group D posts is done to fill the arising vacancies in Group D posts every year. There are around seven posts which fall under Group D and the selection is done in four stages.

  • Written Test
  • Physical Efficiency Test
  • Document and Candidate verification
  • Medical Test

The Written test will be usually Computer-based Test (CBT) of objective type multiple choice questions. There will be around 100 questions and time duration of 90 minutes.

Age Limit: - The age should not be less than 18 years and not more than 32 years.

RRB NTPC Posts Eyesight Criteria
Clerk � cum Typist, Sr. Time Keeper Distance Vision: 6/9, 6/9 without glasses. Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 without glasses. Must pass a test for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision & Night Vision.
Traffic Apprentice, Goods Guard, Assistant Station
Master (ASM), Traffic Assistant
Distance Vision: 6/12, 6/18 with or without glasses. Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6, with or without glasses when reading.

Railway LOCO Pilot

Educational Qualification:-

  • The candidate needs to complete the ITI (approved by NCVT/SCVT) in any specific trade to apply for this post.
  • Candidates who have completed diploma in engineering are also eligible and should have completed minimum 10th standard from recognized board.

Group D

Qualification:- The board has scrapped the rule of mandatory minimum educational qualification for the wife or the widow of the employee for the Level-1 job on compassionate grounds. Previously, the minimum qualification was class 10th.
