TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language is a standardized English proficiency test that assesses English Language skills in the areas of listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Overview:
Testing Of English as Foreign Language(TOEFL) is a standardised test which assesses the English Language abilities of candidates who are not native speakers of English. It is designed and administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS) and is offered at 4500 centers across the world. The TOEFL measures the test takers ability to use and understand English.

Why TOEFL?

• TOEFL is generally mandatory for students who wish to begin undergraduate or graduate studies.
• For students, TOEFL is required in leading universities in US and Canada and is accepted widely in UK and Australian countries.
• Test offered 50 times a year and can be given 1 time in 12 days period.

Whats in it?
TOEFL is an Internet-Based- Test (IBT) and consists of four sections, each measuring one of the language skills and all task focus on language used in academic, higher education environment.
TOEFL test format:

1. Reading:
   Test is of 60-80 mins and has 3-5 passages which requires understanding, each containing 12-14 questions.
2. Listening:
   Tests of 60-90 mins having 6-9 passages, containing 5-6 questions.
3. Speaking:
   Test of 20 mins having 6 tasks.
4. Writing:
   Test of 50 mins having 2 tasks.

TOEFL Scores:

• A candidate apearing the test is scores on a scale of 0-120 points.
• Each of the four sections receives a scaled score of 0-30 points each.
• The test score is valid till two years and one has to retake beyond the time period.
